ABSTRACT

Semantic networks are the organization of knowledge that memory has most influence because “…corresponds to general knowledge of objects, words meanings, facts and people, without connection to any particular time or place”. (Tulving, 381-403) So, human being is able to represent concepts in the form of language, which allows not only the spread of conceptual knowledge in an abstract symbolic form, but also a cognitive mechanism for the flexible manipulation, association and combination of concepts. In this way, humans use conceptual knowledge for much more than than just interacting with objects: culture, including science, literature, social institutions, religion and art, are constructed from conceptual knowledge. We do not reason, plan the future or remember the past without conceptual content, all of these activities depend on activation of concepts stored in semantic memory.

Semantic networks are all over around us; however, we don’t know exactly how we make use of them because we do it in an unconsciously way. This article briefly explains how a graphical image of a company is constructed, starting since we know the images that surround us, how we process them into our minds until we captured the image as a representation, and all of this is achieved by the use of one of the most useful semantic networks that exist. The general objective of this research is to identify the use of semantic networks in the development of a graphic image for a company. To reach the goal of the identification of semantic networks, this research is divided into three sections which are intended to achieve a particular goal each.
